"Empowering Women Through Self-Defense"
The University Police Department offers a self-defense course that consists of basic techniques from various martial arts disciplines. Women learn to utilize their greater lower body strength, enabling them to increase their power when defending themselves. The George Washington University Police Department offers beginning (RAD I) and advanced (RAD II) which is offered to women who have successfully completed RAD I.
Why Take RAD?
RAD helps women to become aware of their surroundings and conscious of the fact that they do not have to feel helpless in any situation. RAD "Empowers Women Through Self-Defense."
Who Can Take RAD?
RAD is designed for women of all ages and all backgrounds.
Who Teaches RAD?
RAD is taught by members of the University Police Department. These instructors have been certified through the RAD Systems, Incorporated, and the instructors have completed many hours of intensive training. The instructors have their own feeling as to why they teach and how involved they get with the program. All Instructors have the same goal:
"To develop and enhance the options of self-defense so that they may become more viable considerations to the woman who is attacked."
When and Where is RAD?
Classes are held at various locations on campus. Each RAD I course consists of 12 hours of training and each RAD II course consists of 16 hours of training. The time and location of classes are posted throughout campus.
How Much Does RAD Cost?
The course book costs $12.00. The training sessions are FREE.
