Become a Facilitator

How can I become a Facilitator?

For Professional Staff and Faculty:
Attend A Training! The ideal person for facilitator training has previous leadership experience in team building, outdoor education, group facilitating, or group dynamics. Becoming a facilitator consists of an intense two-day training in which you and a group of others will experience all eleven SUMMIT elements.  In addition to learning about the elements and their safety considerations, you will learn how to lead different types of groups through the course.  At the end of the two days you will be certified to lead groups on the SUMMIT.  To maintain certification it is imperative that you facilitate at least two groups per academic year. Additionally, receiving certification allows you to facilitate groups in your department, up to 15 people, free of charge (fees may be applied for larger groups).

If you would like to be put on a list of those interested in the next scheduled training send an email to summit@gwu.edu

For Students:
Take the Class! A 2 credit course (listed under Exercise Sports and Activities) called Introduction to Low Ropes Facilitation, will allow you to build leadership skills and help you develop effective and efficient facilitation techniques.*

For more information about the class click here.  To sign up for the class go to the Exercise Sports and Activities section in the schedule of classes at http://www.gwu.edu/~schedule/.

* For those students who have extensive leadership and facilitation experience and wish to forgo the class, experience with team building, outdoor education, group facilitating, or group dynamics (i.e. camp counselor, trip leader, etc.) is required. Reference information will need to be provided to verify that the past experience is applicable and is an appropriate substitute for the knowledge and experience provided in the Low Ropes Facilitation course (see above for course description).
