The SUMMIT is an outdoor low ropes course located on GW's Mount Vernon Campus. To help familiarize you with the SUMMIT, here are the answers to some general questions:


What is a challenge course?
The SUMMIT Outdoor Challenge Course is an outdoor obstacle course designed to help groups have fun while coming together to build unity, and address challenges such as developing trust, creative problem solving, goal setting, and communication.

What does a SUMMIT session entail?
Sessions are customized to meet the specific needs and objectives of individual groups. Your time on the course will include a mixture of group challenges, icebreakers and warm-up activities, element initiatives (click here for details), and reflection time for your group's performance.

Why do it?
There are many benefits to taking your group out of a traditional setting and onto an outdoor challenge course. The high energy environment of the SUMMIT provides great opportunities for group development, leadership development and improvement in group dynamics and communication. Who can use the SUMMIT?
All members of the GW community, including students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to utilize the challenge course. It was designed for you! The SUMMIT is also available for groups outside of the GW community.

Groups that may especially benefit from a SUMMIT experience include, but are not limited to:

Registered Student Organizations
Academic and Administrative Departments
Athletic teams - Intramural, Club and Intercollegiate
Training and Development Programs
Living and Learning Communities
Alternative Spring Break Groups
Academic Classes
Leadership Programs
Orientation programs for students, faculty or staff

Who will facilitate my session?
Your session will be led by a highly trained member of the SUMMIT facilitation team. These facilitators are a unique group of GW students, faculty and staff who have undergone extensive training and observation to provide the best experience possible for your group. Fridays this Fall // 10am-11:50am // SUMMIT Challenge Course, Mount Vernon Campus

Looking for another class to squeeze in your schedule? Want to take your leadership to the next level? Check out this class! You’ll earn 2 credits while engaging in a hands-on experience, observing group dynamics, developing effective and efficient facilitation techniques, and learning about leadership development. Increasing one’s competence in each of these areas is important for all majors; don’t miss this opportunity! You’ll be able to apply what you learn to any setting – from the outdoors, to the classroom, to student organizations. Students who complete this course will also be eligible to become trained facilitators for the SUMMIT Outdoor Challenge Course, one of the newest, most dynamic teambuilding resources on GW’s campus.
