PIN Retrieval & Resets
|
||||||
|
Logging In For the First Time When a user first logs into the GWeb Information System
at http://banweb.gwu.edu, they are asked to enter a UserID and PIN. The
UserID is the user's GWid. For first-time users, the PIN is your
birthday in MMDDYY format - for example, if your birthday is October
19, 1987 your PIN will be 101987. When you log in you will be asked to
create a new PIN. Your new PIN should be 6 characters long, and may
contain letters and numbers. After creating a new PIN, you will be
prompted to agree to the Terms and Conditions, then asked to create a
security question. When creating a security question, please be sure to
avoid any typos and pay attention to capitalization and punctuation, as
the response you enter to retrieve your PIN must match your original
answer EXACTLY. Setting up a security question may make retrieving your PIN later on much easier.
Retrieving a Lost PIN Online
Prior to requesting a PIN reset, you should try to retrieve your PIN
using the tools built into the GWeb Information System. There are two
tools available for PIN retrieval: the Security Question and the PIN
Fetcher.
Using the Security Question to Retrieve a Lost PIN
If a user created a security question when logging in
for the first time, they can use the security question to retrieve a
lost/forgotten PIN. In order to use the Security Question, users should
first load the GWeb Information System at http://banweb.gwu.edu and
enter their GWid into the UserID field. LEAVE THE PIN FIELD BLANK, and
click on the Forgot PIN? button at the bottom of the page.
If the system recognizes the UserID entered, it will
display the Security Question tied to that user account and prompt the
user to enter an appropriate response. If the response entered matches
the stored response, the user will be allowed to create a new PIN and
access the GWeb Information System.
Please note that this will not work if an account has been locked due to multiple failed login attempts. Using the PIN Fetcher Tool to Retrieve a Lost PIN If a user did not set up a security question or does not know the correct response, they can also use the PIN Fetcher tool . In
order to use the PIN Fetcher, users should first load the GWeb
Information System at http://banweb.gwu.edu and click on the "Don't
Know Your PIN?" button above the UserID/PIN fields.
![]() This will pop-up a small window (if you are using pop-up
blocking software, you may need to turn it off or add
http://banweb.gwu.edu to your list of allowed sites). Click the "PIN
Fetcher" button under Step 2. This will pop-up the PIN Fetcher window.
Enter your NetID, password, GWid and birthday in MM/DD/YYYY format into the PIN Fetcher window and click on Fetch. Please note that this will not work if an account has been locked due to multiple failed login attempts. PIN Reset Requests If you have already tried to retrieve your PIN and were
unsuccessful or if your account has been disabled due to multiple
incorrect login attempts, you should request a PIN reset.
