Account Management Console

The Account Management Console is a useful tool for configuring Colonial Mail settings, such as spam filtering, message forwarding and vacation messages.

In order to access the Account Management Console, go to http://amc.gwu.edu and log in using your NetID and password.

After logging in, you will see the main screen. Please note the options available on the left side, as well as the "Mailbox Usage" button in the middle of the screen. You can use the "Mailbox Usage" button to monitor your account's quota. If your account reaches or exceeds its quota, you will be unable to send or receive mail.

It is good practice to change your email password on a regular basis, If you wish to change your NetID password, click on the "Password Change" link on the left side of the screen and follow the directions. Please note that changing your password will affect any account that you use your NetID to access.

If you wish to forward your Colonial Mail to an external address, such as a Yahoo, MSN or Google Mail account, you can do so through the "Forwarding Rules" menu. If you wish to continue receiving forwarded messages in your gwu.edu account, please ensure that the checkbox beside "Deliver a copy to inbox when forwarding email" has been checked.

If you will be away from your email for an extended period of time, you may wish to configure a Vacation message (also known as an Auto-reply message). This can be done through the "Vacation Messages" menu. Be advised that if spam reaches your inbox and an Auto-reply message is sent out as a response, it may confirm the validity of your email address for the spam sender.

Spam has become a major source of concern for email users, and GW has taken steps to address these concerns. The Colonial Mail system is equipped with a Spam filter, which is disabled by default. If you wish to activate the spam filter for your account, simply click on "Anti-Spam options."  You can choose how spam messages addressed to your account be handled, as well as define the frequency of spam deletion.

When choosing to enable the Anti-spam filter, please note that in some very rare cases, valid email may be marked as spam. You may wish to periodically check the messages that were marked as spam to verify that no valid messages were accidentally filtered from your incoming mail.
