Why did the University upgrading our Email Services?
GW decided to upgrade to a Google Mail interface because of the changing ways that members of the GW community use email in every day life and the need for more email storage space. Outsourcing the email system to a third-party service, such as Google Mail, was the right choice for GW because it supports our current hardware platform and offers significantly enhanced storage capabilities, access to other Web-based applications, and the complete features of the commercial Google Mail system. Additionally, the University selected the interface as a result of its popularity with current students and alumni--many students and alumni currently forward their email to Google Mail as compared to other e-mail applications. I forgot my GWMail password. What should I do?
The GWMail username and password are the same as your GW NetID and password. So, resetting the NetID password will reset your password for GWMail. Go to the Account Management Center to reset your password. Students can reset their passwords at https://amc.gwu.edu/PasswordReset. Please note that this is the same username and password used for a variety of online services such as Blackboard, the myGW portal, etc.

Security
How is Google handling my privacy?
In today's increasingly digital world, GW takes the topics of privacy and security very seriously. One of the factors in selecting Google Mail as the third-party email solution was the fact that their privacy and security offerings are compatible with ours. Google's privacy policy states that they will not share our data with others (except as noted in their privacy policy). They will store GW data for as long as we require them to do so and at any time we can take our data off their system. Additionally, Google will not share GW data with third parties, nor will their employees read GW email. Click on the following hyperlink to find out more Google's privacy policy

How is GWMail being secured at GW? Is it safe from hackers, spam, phishing, etc.?
GW's
data will be virtually protected as if it were on its own server. The technology Google uses to protect data is similar to what is used in
online banking applications. Additionally, Google has great spam blocking capability integrated into its email system. Google also blocks viruses in the most direct way possible: by not allowing users
to receive executable files that could contain damaging code. Google provides more information on their security and privacy capabilities at Google's Help Center
