When the unzipping process finishes, setup will automatically begin. The install process is automatic and may take several minutes
.

When setup finishes, liveupdate will update the virus definitions to ensure that you have the latest protection against the newest viruses.

Once setup is complete, Symantec Antivirus will run silently in the background of your computer. To verify that it is installed and running, look in the system tray (usually on the lower right-hand corner of the screen next to the clock) for a gold shield icon.

Finally, it is highly recommended that you run a full scan of your computer after installation. If you have used this computer on the internet without antivirus installed, your computer may already be infected with a virus. Once antivirus is installed and autoprotect is enabled, your computer will be protected from future infections. However, any current infections might not be discovered until a full system scan has been performed.

If you chose to download the version with the firewall, there are a few things to keep in mind while using this software. The firewall that comes included with the Antivirus needs to be "taught" what is good and what is bad. Initially it will block all programs: ones that try to access your computer as well as ones you use to access the internet. Occasionally you will see a window asking you if you want to permit or block this program's access to the internet.

Fig. 11: Firewall warning message

The window provides information about the program that is trying to access the internet. In this case, the user has installed a program, which is requesting access to the internet.  In this situation, the user should permit the program to access the internet. If this window were to pop up with an unfamiliar program or one that was not asked to access the internet, blocking the program would be the better choice. Note that when using the CCA Agent, a Firewall warning message will appear. Permit the application to access the internet. If you block the CCA Agent you will not be able to access the internet.
