LGBTQ
Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgendered and Questioning
The GW Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered, and Questioning (LGBTQ) health program is administered through Student Health Services. During the 2008-2009 academic year, this pilot program will focus on addressing the special health care concerns of The George Washington University’s LGBTQ community. The program will provide a variety of health care services for LGBTQ students requesting:
- General medical care from a LGBTQ-positive clinician.
- Immunizations against diseases particularly prevalent in the LGBTQ population.
- Sexually transmitted disease counseling and testing by clinicians familiar with the concerns of LGBTQ individuals. Screening for HIV, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, Herpes, HPV
- Non-judgmental screenings and referral for mental health issues (such as coming-out, depression, anxiety, relationship issues) affecting members of the LGBTQ community.
Dr. David Reitman is a board-certified physician specialist in young adult health who has written and lectured frequently on gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered health issues. Under Dr Reitman’s direction the program will provide clinical care to our students and he will be a consultant to other clinicians on these issues. Appointments to see Dr. Reitman can be made online or by calling (202)994-6827.
Note: Students who prefer to see a female LGBTQ-friendly provider should call (202)994-6827 and request an appointment with Dr. Isabel Goldenberg, Susan Haney, NP or Nancy Freeborn, NP.
