Which Form of Contraception is Right for You?

There are many options for contraception available today and the choices may seem confusing.  This site is designed to briefly decribe the various forms of contraception, their effectiveness in preventing pregnancy and/or STD transmission, and their advantages and disadvantages in order to help you choose a method that may be suitable for you.

When reading about these forms of contraception, you may want to keep in mind factors that may influence your decision, such as present lifestyle, your age, if you smoke, your health, and how often you have sex.  In addition, you can ask yourself these questions:
  • Are there any medical reasons why this method would not be effective?
  • Will I have trouble remembering to use this method?
  • Will my partner have concerns about this method?
  • Will either my partner or I be embarassed by this method?
  • Will it interrupt sexual intercourse?

Contraceptive Methods:

Male Condom

Female Condom

Contraceptive Injections

Diaphragm and Cervical Cap

Intrauterine Device (IUD)

Nuva Ring  (Vaginal Contraceptive Ring)

Oral Contraceptives

Ortho Evra (The Patch)

Seasonale
