The Inter-Fraternity Council (IFC) of The George Washington University was founded for the purposes of promoting fraternity life and providing a forum for the discussion of issues that affect fraternities and their members. Since 1858, fraternities at GW have come together under the common bond of brotherhood to improve campus life and GW's surrounding neighborhood.
Each fraternity is devoted to the promotion of friendship, academic excellence, athletics, and community service. While the GW campus has changed dramatically over the years, many Greek traditions continue to hold steadfast. Some of these traditions include Greek Week and campus-wide community service projects.
Fraternities foster friendships and provide opportunities to socialize through the hosting of social events such as chapter retreats, mixers, date parties and formals. As you learn more about the fraternity system you will come to realize that every chapter has an important role in making life as a GW student more exciting, enjoyable and successful. Any chapter in the Inter-Fraternity Council will offer numerous opportunities for friendship, campus involvement, leadership and the development of essential skills. We hope that you are interested in learning about the traditions of fraternity life and helping to keep them alive.
