Mission of the Office of Greek Life

Purpose

The George Washington University is committed to supporting a vibrant and strong fraternity/sorority community through a collection of outstanding and distinctive chapters who support and live their respective values. We feel that this can best be achieved through partnerships with National organizations, alumni advisors, individual chapters and the University.

The George Washington University is not an ordinary institution, and thus, we expect extraordinary chapters and an exceptional Greek community.


Mission

Advisory

  •  Serve as SAC Advisor for all chapters and councils
  •  Provide advice to chapters, councils, individuals, advisors, etc. on programs, activities and issues related to the operation of their respective groups
  •  Provide advice and referrals to individual members on personal issues related to their college experience
  • Advise and support Greek councils on programming efforts (social, service, educational, etc.)


Accountability and Appreciation

  • Chapter Excellence program – including tracking related reports and presenting the Chapter Excellence Awards Ceremony
  • Oversight for self-governance process (with Student Judicial Services)
  • Meet and consult with representatives of National Organizations
  • Committed to seeking out opportunities for recognition for chapters and individuals
  • Manage judicial process for chapter incidents


Administrative

  • Coordinate Student Organization Recognition process for chapters and council
  • Approve and consult on chapter events (event planning forms, CADE forms, etc.)
  • Provide leadership and transition training for all chapters and councils (Greek Leadership Conference, Chapter Presidents Retreat, etc.)
  • Manage administrative aspects of recruitment
  • Manage academic achievement process and reports


Advocacy

  • Serve as liaison to other University offices for Greek Life issues
  • Assist students and organizations in resolving issues
  • Promote the positive aspects of Greek Life to the GWU, Foggy Bottom, DC, and National audiences


Accommodations

  • Manage application, selection and renewal process for Greek housing
  • Coordinate selection and training of House Managers
  • Provide direct supervision of House Managers
  • Work with Ambling Management and Residential Property Management to track facility concerns
  • Work with GW Housing Programs to track occupancy issues
