Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority was founded January 16, 1920 on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. by five coeds. These women dared to depart from the traditional coalitions for Black women and sought to establish a new organization predicated on the precepts of Scholarship, Service, Sisterhood and Finer Womanhood. The trail blazed by the founders has been traversed by thousands of women dedicated to the emulation of the objectives and ideals of the Sorority.

On October 26, 1997, the campus of the George Washington University was blessed with the presence of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated. Five sensational women, Tracey Fenwick, LaToyia Moore, Eliza Thompson, Nana Jeffrey-Idun, and Narkai Kamara brought a new wave of community involvement to the campus. The campus was graced with three more members during the Spring on 1999. The were three more additions in the Spring of 2000. The organization continued to grow.

In Fall 2004, Zeta Phi Beta was revitilized on the campus of The George Washington University. Today, there are currently 4 strong members on George Washington University's campus. "How can an organization be considered strong with only four members?" You may ask, to answer that question, "Excellence is not something one can learn, it is something one is born with,” and the ladies of Zeta Phi Beta are predestined for greatness because of our ability to excel. Zeta strives on producing quality, not quantity.

The sorors on the GWU campus are involved in many activities. In the past, Zeta Sorors implemented a mentoring program with students from the School Without Walls High School. They were the first student group to start a program at this school, which is located on the George Washington campus. The sorors have sponsored many successful programs on campus as well including. The annual Interracial Dating Discussion, Sticks and Stones- A Domestic Violence workshop and Flavors of the World - A Poetry Cafe, just to name a few. Zeta Phi Beta currently volunteers at Zacchaeus' Kitchen to help cook and serve meals monthy.

Zeta also creates activities that appeal to the mind, body, and spirit through its program, Z-HOPE (Zetas Helping Other People Excel). In January of 2005, GWU Zetas educated the GW community on healthy eating and gave out snack bags during its "Coming to America" movie night. They also distributed snack bags to the GWU Women's Basketball Team.

The sorors at George Washington University continue to strive for excellence and exemplify the principles of Scholarship, Service, Sisterly Love and Finer Womanhood.
