Phi Mu

Beta Alpha Chapter

The Beta Alpha Chapter of Phi Mu was installed on March 7, 1915 by Erna M. Furgusson, National Secretary, who was assisted by members of the Psi Chapter (Adelphi University) and Baltimore alumnae. The group had been organized in 1914 by Erna Furgusson, Shirley Henderson Syme, and Katherine Chaves Page.

Phi Mu absorbed the Lambda Chapter of Alpha Delta Theta as a result of a national merger in 1939. Five women who were listed as members of Alpha Delta Theta in 1939 also appear on the list of members of Phi Mu in the 1940 Cherry Tree.

The chapter membership suffered greatly during World War II and the chapter was closed in 1950.
