Governing Councils
The Office of Greek Life is responsible for managing and advising the entire Greek community at The George Washington University. The purpose of the Office of Greek Life is to enhance the fraternity and sorority experience of the students at The George Washington University, while ensuring the continued existence and growth of those organizations. Recognized fraternity and sorority chapters at GW contribute positively to student life through programs and services provided to the university community.
The Office of Greek Life specifically advises the four major umbrella Greek organizations:
The Interfraternity Council (IFC)
The Multicultural Greek Council (MGC)
The Panhellenic Association (Panhel)
The National Pan-Hellenic Council
The Greek Life staff serve as interactive liaisons between the Greek community and GW, advocating for the needs of the community, ensuring their voice and concerns are heard, and promoting the positive qualities of the Greek community to the GW community, including the administration, students and faculty. In addition, the Office assesses the developmental needs of the Greek community and provides appropriate educational programs regarding issues such as: service to the community, member education, discrimination, hazing, substance abuse, scholarship, and risk management.

- All-Presidents' Retreat in the Spring
- Panhellenic Sorority Recruitment
- IFC Rush
- MGC Welcome Week
- Greek Week in the Fall
- New Member Symposia in the Fall and Spring
- Greek Night of Achievement in the Spring
- Programming on topics relevant to Greek life including risk management, leadership, and health related issues
In addition, the Office of Greek Life works closely with the Inter/National headquarters of each organizations on GW's campus to ensure positive and continued growth among the chapters, as well as compliance with university policies such as the Code of Student Conduct , Greek Life policies, and the requirements of national and umbrella organizations.
Ultimately, Greek life at GW is about community, scholarship, community service/ philanthropy, brother/sisterhood, and leadership. It's about enhancing the GW and DC communities through service and social functions. It's about traditions, learning valuable lessons, and establishing life-long friendships. And, the purpose of the Office of Greek Life is to ensure that this is all made possible for any student who wants to take part in this awesome opportunity called being Greek! |
