ABOUT EDC

Experience D.C. (EDC) is a program sponsored by the Student Activities Center (SAC) designed for 1st year students interested in knowing the city and campus before the rush and excitement of freshman year.

The program was first launched in 2006 and serviced approximately 80 students.  As we begin our fourth year of programming, we will expand again and double our enrollment capacity to service 200 students.  In 2010, we’re working to continue improving tour options and activities.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE

EDC is open to incoming first year students attending any one CI session during Summer 2010, dates to be announced.  Incoming first year students have the ability and option to participate in both EDC and the Emerging Leaders Program (ELP), another program specifically designed for incoming first year students during the fall semester.

WHAT DO PARTICIPANTS DO

Participants spend two and a half (2 ½) days before classes begin discovering and exploring D.C. in small groups of 8-10 incoming freshmen lead by an upperclassman guide.

GUIDES

20-22 Upperclassmen are selected each year to serve as Guides and lead tours.  Guides are EDC alumni, previous Guides, and/or new to the program- however all Guides have the common identity of being a GW Student Leader and are selected based on their energy and dedication to EDC the program and it's participants.   2010 Guides applications will open in December 2009!

On Thursday and Friday, participants tour the city in their small groups, attend an event/outing in the city during the evening, and participate in campus centered late night activities.  Friday night, participants will attend the traditional “Final Event” in collaboration with the other two co-curricular programs that occur during the same time.

TOURS
