Join Jumpstart!

We are currently hiring dedicated members for the 2008-2009 School Year!

Jumpstart recruits and trains achievement-oriented college students to deliver an innovative early education program. Jumpstart college student Corps members are paired with preschool children from low-income backgrounds in the classroom setting and work together on language, literacy, social and initiative skills

In 2002, The George Washington University was selected to be the first AmeriCorps collegiate affiliate site in Washington, and Jumpstart DC at GW now operates from the Office of Community Service within the Student Activites Center. During the 2006-2007 school year, 60 GW students worked one-to-one with 60 partner children. Through classroom assistance time and another 10 GW students in the summer program, 370 children were positively impacted.

2008-2009 School Year

During the school year from October 1, 2007 - May 2, 2008, members will be placed on a team with 10-12 fellow members and will serve 10-15 hours per week at a local DC preschool partner site (all metro accessible). Members who are Federal Work Study eligible will receive $12 per hour up to their award limit, and volunteer members are always welcome. Undergraduate and graduate students from all majors and backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Upon completion of 300 service hours, members will also receive an additional $1000 AmeriCorps education award for past/future educational expenses.

In order to participate in the school year program, students must be able to participate in the following weekly activities and commit to serve both fall and spring semesters (please indicate all open time and schedule availability on your online application):
