Position Requirements
All those interested in the position of Team Leader for 2009-2010:
- Must be a returning DC Reads tutor
- Must have proven leadership experience in a professional environment or an extracurricular activity/organization
- Must be able to commit to the position from August 24, 2009-April 30, 2010
- August 24-28 will be a mandatory 20 hour paid training/orientation week
- Must be able to work a minimum of 10 hours/week (i.e. 8-9 hours/week at your site and 1-2 hours/week of office hours/meetings at OCS)
- Exception made for Saturday-only programs
- Must have passion for promoting equity and awareness of the challenges within the education system in Washington, DC
- Must have strong time management and organizational skills
Team Leader Role and Responsibilities
In order to be an effective Team Leader, students will be obligated to:
- Conduct regular tutoring at your site
- Serve as an on-site liaison between the DC Reads program and the partner agency/tutoring program Site Coordinator
- Assist with recruitment of new DC Reads tutors
- Work with other Team Leaders and DC Reads Coordinators to plan and implement monthly tutor reflection sessions
- Partner with Team Leaders and DC Reads Coordinators to organize literacy events, tutor recognition initiatives, and service days
- Attend one hour Team Leader meetings led by the DC Reads Coordinators every other week
- Schedule weekly office hour in order to be available as a resource to other DC Reads tutors
- Assist with DC Reads Tutor Orientations for Fall and Spring semesters
- Provide information about the Office of Community Service and the DC Reads Program to tutors at their site
Compensation
ยง $12.50 per hour
