I want to be a DC Reads Tutor, where do I start?
Step 1 (FWS and Volunteers)
Decide which DC Reads Site you would like to work with.
Step 2 (FWS and Volunteers)
Fill out DC Reads Information Forms:
Step 3 (Required for FWS Only)
If you have Federal Work-Study, you need to go to the Career Center (1922 F Street) to pick up Tax Forms:
· I-9 FORM: You will need (2) TWO Forms of ID (Passport, Driver’s License, Social Security Card, Birth Certificate).
· Employment Authorization Form (EAF): You can find this form online in your GWeb account under financial aid and federal work study. Print it and sign the bottom portion of the EAF. Take this form to Orientation. Karen or Emily will sign the middle portion of the EAF.
Step 4 (FWS and Volunteers)
Attend the MANDATORY Tutor Orientation on September 9th from 6-8pm in MC Continental Ballroom
- Submit hiring paperwork (I-9 receipt, EAF) to Karen or Emily during the Tutor Orientation on Sept 9th.
- After your paperwork has been processed by the Office of Community Service and the Career Center, we will notify you when you can begin working. **Tutors CANNOT begin working until ALL PAPERWORK has been processed.
Step 5 (FWS and Volunteers)
Get a TB test and fingerprinted if your site requires you to do so
· **Most tutoring sites require that you are fingerprinted and have a T.B. test. It is recommended you do this as soon as you decide to become a tutor; it will help the process move forward quickly.
· T.B. Testing: GW students can have their T.B. test completed at the Student Health Services for $15.00 (check or cash) at:
2141 K Street, NW
Suite 501
Washington, DC 20037

· Fingerprinting: Students can pick up a “Fingerprinting Verification Form” from the Office of Community Service. Fingerprinting will be completed by D.C. Public Schools at the Office of Human Resources (metro accessible-Union Station).
