Welcome to GW

Through programming coordinated by the Colonial Cabinet, a wide array of social, cultural, educational and recreational activities are available to new students. The transition to college is an ongoing process and the Colonial Cabinet sponsors events and activities throughout the fall semester to help new students make the connection to the GW community.

These programs commence during the summer with Colonial Inauguration and continue into the fall semester with Welcome Week and other activities. Through CI Small Group Reunions and other post-CI events, we encourage students to maintain a relationship with their CI small group. New Students are encouraged to continue interactions with their Cabinet Member and should feel free to call upon their Cabinet Member for advice at anytime!

Transfer students also have the benefit of participating in Colonial Inauguration and have the opportunity to get involved with student life by joining GW Transfers, a student organization.  GW Transfers serves as a link between transfer students and the academics, activities and administration of GW. They helps support transfers before they arrive and when they get to campus by answering questions and helping with anything from house-hunting to grocery shopping, while connecting transfers with some really fun people. If you have any specific questions please email transfer@gwu.edu.

In addition, selection for the Colonial Cabinet and other CI staff positions takes place each October. All interested students should apply. We are always looking for new students who have enjoyed their CI experience and want to make a difference in the transition process for other new students - freshmen and transfers! If you have any specific questions please email cihq@gwu.edu.

These programs are coordinated in conjunction with a variety of University offices including the Student Activities Center, Mount Vernon Campus Life, the Dean of Freshmen and GW Housing Programs.
