Emerging Leaders: FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Emerging Leaders Program (ELP)?
· The Emerging Leaders Program is a seven week program starting in September that provides freshmen at The George Washington University with a greater understanding of the value of leadership through a variety of co-curricular experiences. Participants will engage in workshops designed to develop and build upon previous leadership experience, and learn how to identify their personal leadership style. Each year over 200 students participate in this dynamic program that prepares students to be leaders throughout their college career and beyond.
Why should I join ELP?
- The benefits of attending ELP sessions are far reaching throughout the George Washington community and beyond. ELP alumni have gone on to be Colonial Cabinet members, Student Association Presidents, Class Council officials, College Democrat and Republican chairs, fraternity and sorority heads, along with many other influential leadership positions. Aside from the leadership training that ELP provides it also gives future student leaders a chance to meet each other and form friendships that will last for the duration of their college experience.
When are ELP meetings?
- Participants are required to attend one ninety minute session each week on various topics relating to leadership, on and off campus. Weekly sessions begin in September and meet on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday evenings for seven weeks from 5:30 to 7:30pm. However if there seems to be a problem we can make accommodations.
Who are the Peer Leader Mentors?
- Peer Leader Mentors are selected GWU students that help make ELP an energetic and valuable experience. Peer Leader Mentors are experienced with the Emerging Leaders Program and leadership roles both on and off campus. To learn more about the 2009 PLMs, visit the Peer Leader Mentors
