The mission of the Parents' Outreach Committee is to reach out to GW parents and involve them in the GW community. We want to support the parents of GW students by sharing our experiences with them. We also represent all parents in the Parents Association Advisory Council meetings with University administrators asking the questions that they would ask if they could attend the meeting.
In the past, our concerns and suggestions have resulted in many changes to programs and policy at the GW University. For example, our concerns about Dining Services resulted in a revamp of food concepts and plans and the introduction of the all points system that is used today. We have also successfully lobbied Housing Services for better communication with Parents as well as students regarding the housing selection process. Along with other parent volunteers, we have helped organized bus transportation for students going home for the holidays and at the end of semesters, reducing stress for the parents and saving money as well. Additionally, we are always active and visible at Colonial Inauguration and Colonials Weekend to talk to parents and to listen to their experiences and concerns. We also support Admissions by attending college fairs, talking with parents of admitted students to answer their questions while they are deciding on which offer to accept, and hosting summer send-off parties.
