G W i R E D - Where Student Life Lives
Office of Parent Services

Greetings from the Office of Parent Services!  From a distance, it's sometimes hard for parents to know who to contact when they have questions concerning student life at GW.

·       Who can explain the charges on a tuition bill from Student Accounts?

·       How can my student get additional financial aid?

·       Who can I speak to if my student appears to be having academic or personal difficulties?

·       How can I get information about the Student Health Plan or Student Health Services?

·       How can I get my student into roommate mediation?

·       How does the dining plan work?

·       How can my student get a part-time job, or

·       How can I get information on storage in the summer?

While Spring Visits, Colonial Inauguration, Colonials Weekend events provide an opportunity to receive valuable information about campus programs and services, parents may need more.  It is also sometimes helpful and comforting to speak to a live individual.  Personal service in helping parents better communicate with the University and their student is one the reasons Student and Academic Support Services (SASS) provides the Office of Parent Services.

This website is another link between the University and the Parents. Here, we will provide you with information about Parent Services, as well as other University events and activities. We hope you will use this as a resource throughout your student's college career.

The Office of Parent Services is available to:

·       Advise you on the operations and functions of various University offices;

·       Facilitate an explanation of University policies and procedures, such as those encountered in GW Housing Programs, academic advising, financial aid, student accounts, and registration;

·       Facilitate connections with appropriate administrative staff and faculty to expedite the resolution of questions or concerns;

·       Provide information about campus events and programs, such as Spring Visits, Commencement, and intercollegiate sporting events.

Through the GW Parents' Association, which was established in 1993, parents can take an active role in their student's college experience while networking with other GW parents, staff and administrators.  All parents of undergraduate students are members of the Parents' Association.  In order to further encourage communication between the University and parents, the Office of Parent Services requests articles in The Colonial Parents' Connection Newsletter which is available online each year.  We also communicate to parents using the GW Parent Listserv that provides members the most recent information on GW activities and events.
