Disciplinary Conferences are one-on-one meetings with a University administrator or a specially trained member of the University Hearing Board. These discussions are intended to determine a student's level of involvement in an incident, whether that student violated University policy, and to recommend an appropriate sanction, if necessary.
Low and mid-level cases - defined as those cases where loss of University housing, suspension, and expulsion are not potential sanctions - are heard only through Disciplinary Conferences. For these DCs, as they are called, a student will have their case heard by a member of the SJS staff or their designee. Students charged in high-level cases - where loss of University housing, suspension, and expulsion are potential sanctions - have the option to choose to have their case heard in a Disciplinary Conference rather than before a University Hearing Board. For more information about this choice, please see the Election of Action page.
A student who does not appear for a scheduled Disciplinary Conference may have his or her case heard in his or her absence. For more information regarding this provision and other procedures used in Disciplinary Conferences, please see Article 25 of the "Code of Student Conduct."
