The George Washington University values its location in the heart of Washington, D.C. where it has been situated for more than 180 years, with the main campus being in Foggy Bottom for over 90 years. Throughout its history, GW has strived to maintain amiable relations with its neighbors in Foggy Bottom and Fox Hall near the Mount Vernon campus. The University brings a multitude of benefits to the District of Columbia and its residents - including sales and other tax revenue, thousands of jobs, charitable donations, thousands of hours of volunteer community service, scholarships for D.C. students, and countless other positive contributions. But GW recognizes its limitations in controlling how its students interact with the outside community. Students' sometimes boisterous behavior can negatively impact GW's neighbors.

All GW neighbors should understand that the University considers disturbances of the public peace by its students to be serious matters. Students who create excessive noise either inside or outside a building to the annoyance or disturbance of others may be violating the "Code of Student Conduct."  As such, the University encourages anyone who believes he or she is being negatively affected by the behavior of GW students to contact the University Police Department at (202) 994-6110 to initiate a complaint. Please be prepared to include the time and date of the disturbance, information regarding the identity of the student(s), and as much specific detail regarding the nature of the disturbance as possible.
