Life-Long Learning
Created in 1992 by students, staff and faculty interested in volunteering in the District of Columbia, the Office of Community Service (OCS) at The George Washington University has become the focal point for civic engagement for our campus community. This engagement not only enhances the lives of local residents, but also deepens the educational experience of our student participants. OCS has grown from organizing volunteer projects to maintaining service programs, which serve as a bridge between the curricular and co-curricular goals of the University. Today students may volunteer, earn Federal Work Study or receive academic credit for their contributions to the community. By expanding and adjusting to the changing interests and lifestyles of our students, the Office of Community Service has grown into a dynamic center for service, learning and social justice advocacy.
