Mount Vernon to Mount Vernon
Bike Tour Fall 2008

Come take the ride that will connect The George Washington University to its roots!  Grab your bike (or borrow one) and ride the 24 miles from GW's Mount Vernon Campus to the historic Mount Vernon Estate in Virginia!  Join GW community members on this special bike trip along the Mount Vernon Trail.  Students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends are all welcome to participate! 

Participants will also be provided with lunch and the opportunity to tour the amazing grounds of George Washington’s estate (lunch and tour are included in the registration cost).  The cost for students to participate is $15; the cost for faculty, staff, alumni and friends to participate is $20.  Transportation for the return trip is available on a limited basis.

Quick Facts About the Tour


  • Bikes are available to rent or reserve for the day.
If you have a valid GWorld, you are eligible to use one of the mountain bikes from Lloyd Gym.  Please check this option on the registration form.  Bikes are limited and will be reserved on a first-come-first-served-basis.
  • Helmets are required for all riders.
In order to ensure the safety of all participants, helmets must be worn.  Please be sure to make arrangements to have a helmet for this trip. 

  •  There WILL be pit stops on the ride to Mount Vernon, VA.
No matter your pace, a staff member will be with you and guide you to the designated pit stops along the Mount Vernon Trail.  Drinks will be provided and restrooms will be available.  Some basic bike tools will will be available if needed.

  •  Transportation for the return trip is available on a limited basis.
There is a limited amount of space for participants and their bikes in the vehicles provided for transportation.  This space will be given to those who request it on a first-come-first-served basis.  Participants DO, of course, have the option to ride their bikes back to either the Mount Vernon or Foggy Bottom campus.

  • Payment for bike tour accepted in cash, check or GWorld.

Participants can pay their registration fee in the following ways:

  • By cash or check at the Mount Vernon Campus Life, located in Academic Building 115 on the Mount Vernon Campus
  • By cash or GWorld in the Campus Recreation Office, located on the 2nd floor of the Lerner Health and Wellness Center on the Foggy Bottom Campus
  • By mailing a check (do not send cash) to Ashley Venneman c/o Bike Tour, 2100 Foxhall Rd NW, Academic Building 115, Washington, DC 20007. 
Payment must be received by Tuesday, November 4 in order to secure your spot.

  • Refunds will be available until 5pm on Tuesday, November 4, 2008. 

    Due to the nature of the expenses of this event, refunds will not be available after this date. 
    To request a refund, please e-mail Ashley Venneman (avennema@gwu.edu) with "Bike Tour Refund" in the subject line. 


  • This trip will take place rain or shine. 

    Unless the weather is too dangerous for riding, this trip will happen.  Check the latest weather forecasts here.  And if severe weather is predicted, please be sure to check back right here for updated event information.
