Mount Vernon Campus Service Areas Advisory
updated Tue Feb 9, 1pm
The University will use Campus Advisories to keep the University community updated on operating status throughout the weekend’s weather event.
Mount Vernon Campus residents are advised to keep in mind that, while the weekend and week’s winter weather is expected to have significant implications for University services and resources, key service areas at the Mount Vernon Campus will continue to function largely on normal schedules.
The Vern Express
The Vern Express will continue to run around-the-clock throughout the weekend, and is prepared to operate in severe weather. While every effort will be made to keep on schedule, residents and riders should not be surprised if, as the weather grows worse, the trip between the campuses and the time between departures takes longer than normal. Notice of extended wait times will be posted to LED message boards at the Somers Hall and Fulbright Hall stops, and shared via text-message (sign up at http://gwired.gwu.edu/MVCL/Express/textmessage).
Additionally note that, in the event that Express buses are unable to enter the Mount Vernon Campus due to slippery conditions on campus roadways, they may begin picking up and dropping off on Whitehaven Parkway at the entrance to campus. Signage to this effect will be posted at the Somers Hall stop directing riders to Whitehaven Parkway.
Due to classes being canceled on Mon Feb 8 and Tue Feb 9 (http://campusadvisories.gwu.edu/current.cfm?id=724), The Vern Express will operate on a weekend schedule and will make departures in Foggy Bottom from the Fulbright stop (at 23rd & H Street) throughout the day.
Ames Dining Room
The Ames Dining Room will operate on its normal opening schedule during the weekend: Fri 7a-7:30p / Sat 9:30a-7:30p / Sun 9:30a-8:30p / Mon through Thu 7a-8:30p. Depending on the ability of delivery trucks to reach campus during the weekend, though, food options may be somewhat more limited than normal.
Eckles Library
The Eckles Library is expected to remain open on its normal schedule throughout the weekend: Fri 8a-8p / Sat 10a-8p / Sun 10a-3a / Mon 8a-3a.
Beginning on Tue Feb 9, and throughout the duration of classes being canceled, Eckles Library will be open 8a-8p
Lloyd Gym
The Lloyd Gym is expected to remain open on its normal schedule throughout the weekend: Fri 7a-9p / Sat 11a-8p / Sun 11a-8p / Mon through Thu 7a-11p. Recreational activities scheduled to take place at the outdoor facilities may be limited, however.
GW Police Department
The GW Police Gatehouse will remain staffed around the clock, as normal. You can reach University Police at 202-242-6111 (emergency) or 202-242-6110 (non-emergency).
Key Depot
The RPM Key Depot at Somers Hall will operate as normal on Fri Feb 5 (8:30a-11p), will be closed on Sat Feb 6, and will reopen as normal on Sun Feb 7 and going forward (8:30a-11p). As normal, GW Police remains available to assist with lockouts anytime that the Key Depot is closed.
Mail and Package Services
Mail and Package Services will remain open on its normal schedule on Friday (8a-5p and 1p-5p, respectively), but will close for the weekend (USPS, UPS, and FedEx have indicated that they will likely not be making deliveries on Saturday; Mail and Package Services is normally closed on Sunday). They are expected to reopen on their normal schedule on Monday (8a-5p and 1p-5p, respectively).
