1. NBC OLYMPIC GUIDE INTERNSHIP

Job Description

NBC is looking for highly motivated individuals to assist with the on-site logistics for our client entertainment program at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beis individual will serve as the “face” of NBC as they will interact daily with NBC and GE executives, as well as top advertising clients.  NBC will entertain approximately 1,600 guests in four waves throughout the Games period.  Our goal is to ensure that the guests have a wonderful time in Beijing and a truly unforgettable Olympic experience.The internship will require a team player who is efficient, organized, well-groomed, and outgoing – a person that is willing to give 100% and work long hours to ensure that the our program runs smoothly.  This individual must speak fluent English and should have some sports knowledge, be comfortable speaking in front of large groups of people, be willing to work extremely long hours and not be bothered by extended amounts of time in the heat. 

 

The following is a list of responsibilities that the position would include but not be limited to:

  • Airport meet and greets
  • Baggage handling
  • Transportation assistance
  • Food & beverage assistance
  • Bus escorts to/from Olympic events
  • Bus escorts to/from offered activities
  • Directional support
  • Guest services
  • Event set-up
  • Merchandise fulfillment

It is important to note that all candidates must be in excellent health, as many of the duties will include physical activity. All guides will be responsible for paying for their own flights to and from Beijing on the dates given above.  Once on the ground in Beijing, NBC will take care of all transportation, accommodation (rooms will be shared) and food throughout the Games. NBC requires that your school give you an academic credit for your participation in this program.  Please make sure this is something that can be worked out with your school.

2. Small DC veterinary non-profit Internship

Spring Semester 2008

Small veterinary non-profit seeks summer intern for projects related to an academic diversity initiative, DVM: DiVersity Matters. The Spring experience will include opportunities to work on event planning, survey and policy development ,and analysis. Students will have an opportunity to learn about numerous diversity dimensions including race, ethnicity and gender, and how these issues impact veterinary medicine.

The experience is expected to be as diverse as its subject matter in providing unique opportunities for an intern. Preferred candidates should be well performing undergraduate junior/senior class students with interests, majors and/or coursework in the following areas: social justice, diversity, cultural affairs, public policy, communication.  All majors will also be considered. Good oral and written communication skills are a must, as is attention to detail, flexibility and ability to work with limited supervision.

Candidates may use experience for academic credit and will be eligible for a $1000 stipend. Students can expect to work 15-20 hours per week. Community Bridges has served at-risk girls in the Silver Spring/Takoma Park area of Montgomery County, MD since 1997. We are a community-based not-for-profit, which is founded on the belief that all girls are infinitely capable of succeeding in life as strong and confident young women. We empower girls to discover their unique identity, voice and potential through leadership development, academic support and enrichment, and exposure to opportunities that challenge them to become advocates for themselves, their families and their community.
Description:
The LUNA program intern will work closely with the Program Coordinator to plan and execute direct-service programming for Middle and High School-aged Latina immigrants and their families. Intern will work directly with girls during after-school time programs and possibly evening or weekend events with families per program needs and candidate’s availability. Intern will also support other program needs such as documentation, reporting and communication with community partners.

The intern will gain practical experience in their field of study through direct service and hands on experience with community-based youth work. The Advancing Hispanic Excellence in Technology, Engineering, Math and Science (AHETEMS) Foundation seeks qualified applicants for the position of Legislative Intern. The individual hired will work specifically with AHETEMS, in partnership with the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans (SACNAS), the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE), and the Society of Mexican American Engineers and Scientists (MAES).

Description:
The Legislative Intern will be responsible for working with SACNAS, SHPE and MAES and our legislative consultant in drafting letters, notices, and responses to Congress on legislation concerning workforce development and education impacting Latinos/as. The intern would be responsible for drafting proposals in response to legislation as well as Request for Proposals from federal agencies. The intern would also be responsible for coordinating legislative visits to Capitol Hill, and following up on correspondence to Capitol Hill. The intern must be able to travel.
Qualifications:
• Masters student in Social Science, Public Policy, Public Administration, Political Science, Science and Technology Policy, or law students. Also, would consider seniors in college.
• Knowledgeable of legislative process
• Knowledgeable of educational and employment issues impacting Latinos/as in science, technology, engineering and mathematics
• Proficient in using software for legislative searches, etc.
• Highly skilled in managing large amounts of information in an organized fashion
• Well versed in verbal and written communication
•  Critical reading skills
• Proficient with word processing
• Fluent in Spanish
Location:
The intern will be located Washington D.C. The intern will meet at least once a week with the D.C.-based legislative consultant and report to AHETEMS supervisor based in Arlington, Texas.
Duration:
Minimum would be six month internship. Willing to consider energetic and dynamic part-time candidates, but preference will be given to applicants available full-time.
Salary:
Varies based on experience, duration, and whether full-time or half time – maximum is $15,000

encourages aspiring leaders to engage in intense grassroots development opportunities that explore the promise of leadership and challenge individuals to leverage their skills and talents to address India's pressing needs.  The Indicorps Fellowship program is designed to provide one-of-a-kind transformational experiences, emphasizing both public service and personal growth. Indicorps participants choose their projects and are placed with thoroughly evaluated community-based organizations for one or two years. All fellows will participate in a four-week orientation program, strengthen their understanding of leadership/change through regular workshops, and are actively supported by Indicorps and partner organizations.

11. HIV & Maternal/Child Health/Nutrition (MCHN) Specialist (7.1)

Project Summary: 

The FANTA Project supports integrated food security and nutrition programming to improve the health and well-being of women and children. The ten-year project is managed by the Academy for Educational Development and funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development. Technical assistance is provided to USAID missions and host governments, private voluntary organizations and non-governmental and international organizations to improve program design, monitoring and evaluation.  

Position Summary: 

The MCHN and HIV Specialist will work closely with FANTA?s MCHN cluster and HIV clusters, including staff based in East Africa, to provide programmatic and technical support for USAID-supported activities, especially those related to the President

• Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), the PL-480 Title II program, and Child Survival and Health Grant Programs (CSHGP). The MCHN and HIV Specialist will be responsible for providing technical assistance to USAID, PVOs, host governments and other Cooperating Agencies on MCHN and HIV policies, programming and strategies. The MCHN and HIV Specialist will take the lead in providing technical assistance in nutrition and HIV to several Francophone countries. The MCHN and HIV Specialist will collaborate with other FANTA staff on general MCHN and HIV issues, and assist with the coordination of FANTA?s activities on MCHN and HIV issues.  

Essential Job Functions (60%):  

Take the lead in providing technical assistance to several Francophone countries, such as C?te d?Ivoire, Haiti and Rwanda, to strengthen the integration of nutrition into HIV services. Technical assistance may include support for development of a strategy on nutrition and HIV; preparation of guidance for nutritional care in HIV clinical settings; organization of training of trainers on nutrition and HIV counseling; and the development of food security assessment tools for the HIV context. The Specialist will manage these activities, including design and planning, liaising with USAID, contracting of consultants and partner organizations, implementation of activities, preparation of written products, and reporting of results. Act as a technical resource to USAID and respond to requests for technical information and assistance on topics related to HIV/AIDS, food and nutrition, including the use of ready-to-use therapeutic (RUTF) foods in the HIV context. Act as a technical resource for food aid PVOs on food aid programming in the HIV context, including assistance with such issues as targeting, ration design, MCHN programming and monitoring and evaluation (M&E). Represent FANTA at meetings with stakeholders related to HIV/AIDS, food and nutrition. Prepare and as needed present technical presentations on HIV/AIDS and nutrition topics at forums. Coordinate with FANTA partners (e.g. universities, research institutions, and regional organizations) to track progress, review results, and address challenges for joint activities related to nutrition and HIV.

Job Functions (30% time):

Provide assistance to USAID, PVOs, host governments and other Cooperating Agencies and donors to improve their food, health and nutrition policies and strategies; and participate in the review of USAID policy and strategy documents to ensure effective integration of MCHN activities into Agency and Mission strategic plans and results frameworks across different programs.

Serve as a technical reviewer of PVO proposals for Title II and CSHGP funding, their associated Results Reports, and monitoring and evaluation strategies. Provide technical follow-up to the PVOs on the interpretation and implementation of review comments. Develop, revise and support tools for MCHN policy analyses, technical guidelines, Indicator Guides and Best Practices materials, including guidance materials, manuals and technical notes for improved monitoring and evaluation of food security and nutrition programs.

Provide technical guidance and leadership on approaches to MCHN and child survival programming, such as Essential Nutrition Actions (ENA), PD Hearth, and Community-based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM).

Serve as a resource to FANTA staff and clients for woman and child health and nutrition policy initiatives at the regional, national, and program level.

Job Functions (10% time):

Work with FANTA project management and communications staff to provide input to work plans, quarterly and annual reporting.

Work with the Senior MCHN Advisor and Project Director, as needed, to respond to requests from USAID Bureau for Global Health for MCHN-related information and reporting. This may include the preparation of reports and other documents related to project progress and impact as required by USAID.

With the help of volunteers, the 2008 Republican National Convention will be a truly remarkable event. The convention and the 2008 Minneapolis-Saint Paul Host Committee will recruit more than 8,000 volunteers, who will perform key duties and play crucial roles in the areas of transportation, information services, hospitality, and special events during the week of the convention.
