PLACEMENT Undergraduate Placement into EAP Undergraduate students with a TOEFL score below 600 (or 250, or 100) must register for EAP 015: American Multicultural Perspectives in Washington DC. See the chart below for score descriptions by TOEFL test type:
Regardless of TOEFL score, international students who are unfamiliar with the conventions of American academic writing are also encouraged to register for EAP 15 in order to build up their skills before taking UW20. Upon the successful completion of EAP 015, students will go on to take University Writing 20, and two Writing in the Disciplines (WID) courses to fulfill GW’s literacy requirement. Graduate Placement into EAP According to university regulations, if your TOEFL score was below 100 (Internet-based test), 250 (computer-based test), or 600 (paper-based test), you must take the EAP Placement Test in order to be placed into one of the EAP courses. You will not be allowed to register for your classes until your advisor receives your results. (Please remember that the EAP Placement Test is not a waiver exam. You are only exempted from the placement test and EAP courses if you scored an overall band score on the academic IELTS of 7.0, with no individual band score below 6.0.)
