María Felicia Arnal (Spanish)
 María is a senior majoring in Environmental Studies with a minor in Geography. She was born in Washington, D.C but her parents being both Bolivian raised her in Bolivia. She also lived in Austria and France where she learned German and French. Her native language is Spanish and this is her second year as a Spanish tutor in the Language Center. Maríaa is passionate about languages and at GW she took German and French language courses. She also spent two months this summer in Germany where she did an internship and was able to practice German. María enjoys traveling, exploring new places, and reading among other things.
Tania Cavallo (Spanish, French)
 Tania is a sophomore majoring in Art History and pursuing a minor in Business Administration. She grew up in New York and went to a French international school. Her mother is from Mexico, so she grew up speaking Spanish and French at home. She is very passionate about languages and literatures, so she started studying German in high school and continued on to GWU where she is now starting to study Italian. Tania also likes to dance, explore new places, and visit art galleries.
Lisa Crawford (Chinese)
 Lisa is a senior double majoring in International Affairs and Asian Studies. She began studying Chinese at GW, and spent a summer at the Middlebury College Intensive Summer Language Program for Mandarin. She studied abroad in Beijing for the fall semester of 2007, and plans to return to China after graduation. In her spare time she plays cello, and is a member of the GW Symphony Orchestra.
Eileen Dorfman (Russian)
 Eillen is a senior from Southern California, graduating in her third year at GW. She majors in international affairs with a regional concentration in Europe and Eurasia and a minor in Slavic languages and literatures. She is currently enrolled in Advanced Topics in Russian after having taken the intensive track as a freshman. Eileen has experience with one semester of business Russian and a summer intensive program on political Russian at Johns Hopkins SAIS. She is currently doing volunteer translation for the US Holocaust Museum, in addition to tutoring, and hopes to continue her academic career in Russian and Eastern European regional studies. 'Alina' is first-generation American, but if you're really nice to her she might make her mama's borscht recipe for you!
Aurelia Fäh ( French)
 Aurelia is a junior majoring in International Affairs and Political Science. She is a native French speaker on a one year exchange program at GW. She was born and raised in France closed to Geneva, Switzerland. After highschool, she moved to Paris to study at SciencesPo. In addition, Aurelia also studied German and Spanish. She enjoys hiking, skiing and outdoor sports in general.
Elliot Franklin (Latin)
 Elliot is a junior majoring in Classical Humanities and minoring in German Language and Literature. He began studying Latin in 10th grade, and has continued with the language ever since for total of 5 years. Elliot was awarded the Lattimore Award, the award given annually to the best Latin student at GWU, by the Classics department last spring after his sophomore year. Now in his 5th semester of Advanced Latin, Elliot has read numerous famous Latin authors in both prose and poetry. He is also currently studying Ancient Greek and German.
Lamine Hamdad (Arabic and French) Lamine is originally from Algeria where Arabic and French are the spoken languages. He also lived for four years in Strasbourg, France. He enjoys speaking these languages and takes the opportunity to practice them while tutoring at the GWU Language Center. He studied Computer Science and International Business when he was in Algeria. He also studied Web Technologies in the US at Montgomery College, Rockville Campus. He is now a sophomore student at GW majoring in Information Systems at the Business School. Lamine likes drawing, listening and playing music, and outdoor activities.
Sarah Hank (Arabic)
 Sarah is a senior in the Elliott School studying International Affairs, Geography, and GIS. She is also concentrating in Middle Eastern Studies and spent the fall semester of 2007 studying abroad in Cairo, Egypt. Through her study of Arabic at GW and abroad, Sarah has developed a strong interest for Arab culture and the Arabic language. She is currently enrolled in ARAB 103 and plans on returning to the Middle East after graduation for travel and perhaps work, insha'allah.
Sofía Heredia (Spanish)
 Sofía was born in Peru and lived there until coming to the United States in 2004. She is a junior in the School of Business majoring in Finance and International Business. She tutors in Spanish and have also studied French.
Chad Latawiec (Spanish) Chad is a sophomore in the School of Business majoring in International Business and minoring in Spanish Language and Literature. He has studied Spanish in school for seven years and plans to study abroad in Madrid, Spain during the Spring 2009 semester. He has also studied French, American Sign Language, and Turkish. In his spare time he likes to read (he is currently reading the Harry Potter books), swim, run, eat ethnic food, and learn new languages. He hopes to learn Mandarin and move to China upon graduation.
Joshua Kun Hee Lee (Korean)
 Joshua is a sophomore double majoring in Economics and International Affairs. He was born in Seoul, Korea and, besides being a native speaker of Korean, he has studied 11 foreign languages, mostly Asian and Indo-European. In his Korean middle school, he studied Japanese and Chinese composition. While attending St. John's Prep School in America, he studied German, Spanish and French. He spent one term abroad in Austria during winter of 2004 winter. He also lived in Barcelona, Spain and Montpellier, France. During summer 2008 he took Russian courses at St. Petersburg State University. After studying in St. Petersburg, he took the Trans-Siberian Railway and crossed the Eurasian continent until he reached his home in Korea. As of 2008, he has travelled to 60 countries in all 6 continents in the world. In particular, he enjoys travelling in Latin America and Eastern Europe. During the winter of 2008-09, he plans to do a short-term Chinese program at Fudan University in Shanghai. In the spring of 2009, he plans to study at Sciences Po Paris, taking courses in his three major fields of study: International Relations, Global Business, and International Law.
Phil Lueckgen (German, Italian)
Phil is a junior in the Elliott School studying international
affairs. He has lived in Germany and Italy before coming to the US in
2002. As a result of his experience abroad, Phil has acquired knowledge
of German and Italian. In addition, he has studied French throughout
high school and is currently in the process of learning Spanish. In his
spare time he likes to volunteer, play soccer and go out with his
friends.
Inmaculada Macias (Spanish)
 Inmaculada is a junior majoring in Middle East Studies and Political Science. She is a native Spanish speaker raised in Madrid, and she is studying at GW for a year as an international exchange student. Inmaculada also speaks French, intermediate Arabic and is now starting to learn Hebrew.
Tatsuya Sakurai-Jyc Liu (Chinese, Japanese)
 Tatsuya is a sophomore double-majoring in International Affairs and Political Science. He was born in Taipei, but moved to the island of Guam one month after. He has actively visited both Taiwan and Japan during Summers and Winters where he improved on his Japanese and Mandarin Chinese, which he mainly learned in Lower School and eventually in College. His native language is English, and this is his first year as a Japanese/Mandarin Chinese tutor in the Language Center. Tatsuya has done intensive Japanese programs with Ritsumeikan University during Upper School and Waseda University in Summer for his Japanese, while continuously learning Mandarin Chinese at the Chinese School of Guam throughout Upper School to College. Tatsuya enjoys traveling through cities such as Tokyo or Taipei, and eventually hopes to study in Europe.
Tal Schapira (Hebrew)
 Tal is a sophomore pursuing a double major in Dance and Political Science. She is a native Israeli speaker raised in Florida. Tal began tutoring in the language lab last semester, but has been a 4th grade Hebrew Teacher for two years.
Emmi Teuksbure-Volpe (Italian)
Emmi was born and raised in Napoli, Italy and is the Language Center’s
Italian tutor. She is a Sophomore at GW, majoring in International
Development and Latin American studies, with a minor in Russian
Language and Literature. Emmi also speaks French and Spanish, having
studied them in high school and college, and is currently completing
her second year of Russian.
Leah Wang (Chinese)
 Leah Wang is a senior majoring in International Affairs and minoring in Economics and Chinese. She was born in Beijing, China and immigrated to the United States when she was ten years old. Leah had lived in Southern California until she transferred to GWU. She tutors all levels of Chinese. She has been a Chinese tutor at the GW Language Center for two years.
Mark Wayne
(Russian, Arabic)
 Mark is a sophomore majoring
in International Affairs and Russian. Before coming to GW, Mark
studied Latin and ancient Greek during high school while independently
studying Russian. Having studied Arabic through several summer study
programs, Mark had originally enrolled at GWU planning to focus on
Middle Eastern affairs. However, his increasing passion for Russia
combined with his enlightening 2-month summer experience in Almaty,
Kazakhstan drove him to go in a different direction and pursue a focus
on Eurasia. Mark completed Intermediate Russian during his freshman
year and is currently enrolled in Advanced Russian, and hopes to study
abroad in Russia during the 2009-2010 academic year.
