Spring 2010 ISO Orientation (for all international students)

Time and location are yet to be determined.  Please check back for details.  You will also receive more information when you check in with our office upon your arrival at GW.  Note that this is a 2 day orientation program.

Check List of Things to Do:

 

¨     Login to GWeb Information System (Screen Example Attached) :

·        From the MyGW Portal (http://my.gwu.edu/), select “GWeb Info System” on the left hand side

·        Enter your student identification number (Gnumber) that begins with a capital G and Personal Identification Number (PIN).

*         The first time you enter your PIN please try your birth date: MM-DD-YY

·        If you have difficulty with your login, please call 202-994-5530 and select Option #1

 

¨     GW Email Account:

·         To create a Colonial Mail account, please visit http://helpdesk.gwu.edu/accounts/

·         Here you will create a NetID. The NetID is a single username (with a corresponding password) that gives you access to GWMail (Email), MyGW (GW's Portal) and Blackboard (Online Course Software)

·          You will need to have a Colonial Mail account before you can register for classes

 

¨     Registration:

We strongly encourage you to meet with your academic advisor in your department to determine the classes for which you should register

Login to “GWeb Info System” and select “Student Records & Registration Menu.”

·         After registering, you may continue to adjust your schedule from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, through the end of the late registration period

·         Detailed registration information can be found in the current semester’s Schedule of Classes or on-line from the Office of the Registrar Web site: http://www.gwu.edu/~regweb/

·         Please note: You will not be able to register for classes until you have visited the ISOr ‘Check-In at the ISO’ hold will be removed from your record within 24 hours after you have completed your check-in. After the hold is removed, you will then be able to register.

 

¨     GW Student Identification Card/ GWorld Card:

  • After you register for at least one class, you are eligible to receive your GWorld Card. The office is located in the Marvin Center (800 21st Street, 5th Floor). Please bring a government-issue photo ID (like your passport).

¨     Updating your address:

  • Maintaining your address in Gweb is extremely important as this is the address we will be reporting to SEVIS in order for you to maintain your status.  It is your responsibility to make sure that this address is accurate within 10 days of whenever you move. 
  • Please update your current local street address by accessing the “GWeb Info System” from the MyGW Portal (http://my.gwu.edu/).  Your current address is your address in the D.C. area, your permanent address must be an address outside of the U.S.
  • After entering your User ID and Pin, please go to the “Personal Information Menu” and select “Update Addresses and Phones”

¨     Paying Tuition and Fees:

·         If you are a government-sponsored student or the recipient of a GW Fellowship or Graduate Assistantship (GTA, GRA, GAA), you will need to go to the Student Accounts Office in the Academic Center (801 22nd Street, Room 102), to inform the representative of your sponsorship

  • If you are privately sponsored, for example by family funds, you may go directly to the University Cashiers Office located in Rice Hall (2121 I Street, 3rd Floor)

¨     Immunization Form:

·         If you are under 26 years of age, you will need to take your completed immunization form to the Student Health Center (2141 K Street, Suite 501).  This form was included in your admission pack; however, it is also available online and in the Welcome Center at the ISO.

¨     Computing:

To use wireless internet at GW with your own computer, you will need to first get a netID (your email address) and then go to http://helpdesk.gwu.edu/gwireless and download the appropriate software.  If you have any issues, please contact the ISS helpdesk.

Once you have your Gworld card you will be able to access any of the computer labs on campus, most notably, in each of the libraries. Until you have this card, if you need to use a computer, please visit the following computer lab where walk-in computing support will be available:
