Check-In for Early Arrivals

Students arriving to the Foggy Bottom Campus between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. prior to University Move In Day should go to the GW Housing Programs desk at Philip Amsterdam Hall (formerly New Hall), located at 2350 H Street, NW, to check-in.  Students arriving to the Mount Vernon Campus should go to the GW Housing Programs desk at Somers Hall (located at 2100 Foxhall Road, NW).  Please refer to the How to Move In page of the site to get individualized cart, package, and media converter pickup information.

  •       If you arrive on-campus between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., go to the GW Housing Programs desk at Philip Amsterdam Hall (formerly New Hall), located at 2350 H Street, NW.  You should be able to enter the building, but if the door is locked you should knock to attract the attention of the staff or call 202-242-2200 to be let into the building.  You will need to check-in with the housing staff at the Housing Desk in Philip Amsterdam Hall.  Once you have checked in, you can visit the Key Depot in Philip Amsterdam Hall to obtain your room key and a temporary access card for your residence hall.  You will need to use the temporary access card until you have been able to obtain your permanent GWorld card.
  • If you arrive on campus between 11 p.m. and 8 a.m., both the GW Housing Programs desk and the Key Depot will be closed.  Contact the GW Police Department at 202-994-6110, who will be able to assist you with access. Tell the staff member who answers the phone that you are an international exchange student who has been approved for early move-in.  You will then be directed to meet a university staff member who will let you into your room for the night.  The following day you will need to visit the GW Housing Programs Desk and Key Depot at Philip Amsterdam Hall (located at 2350 H Street, NW) between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. to complete your check-in and pick up your key.

Please feel free to contact our office via email at gwhouse@gwu.edu or via telephone at 202-994-2552 should you have any questions regarding your check-in to housing.

Best regards and safe travels,
