Violence Prevention Programs

The Hamilton Fish Institute conducted a meta-analysis in 1999 and found a number of programs that effectively reduced violence in schools and communities. Additional programs were found that didn't quite meet the rigorous demands of the study, yet showed signs of promise. Both are presented in this section. Further details on this study can be found in the documents below.

The Effectiveness of School-Based Interventions for Preventing and Reducing Violence (1999 Final Report)

Effective Programs and Strategies to Create Safe Schools There are many programs and strategies that can reduce or prevent violence in schools. This document presents several examples of programs and strategies that are well designed and can be implemented in schools across the nation. The models presented here are only a few examples; many other equally effective models are not presented. These models can be adapted to meet the needs of any local area through a process that includes planning, implementation, evaluation, and revision.
