DC: Cultural Capitol

Washington DC was laid out to symbolize the United States. But what does it mean to live in the middle of that symbolism? How do you navigate between the private city of distinctive and historic neighborhoods, on the one hand, and the public city of grand monuments and world class museums on the other? In this one-credit class, students will learn to answer these questions by visiting a different neighborhood, museum, or historic site each week.

In order to take this class, students must register for DC: Cultural Capitol (American Studies 55).

·       There will be 10 sessions; students must attend at least 5 in order to receive one credit for the course

·       Class meetings will be offered between June 1 and Aug 7 on Saturday afternoons and some weekday evenings

·       Each class will meet at a different location.

·       No reading will be assigned, but students will be required to work together to complete a brief assignment at each venue they visit

·       Register through July 1

·       P/NP only

This is a great way to experience Washington DC and a great way to share that experience with others. Students who register for this course will have access to all the resources of George Washington University.

Learn to live in Washington DC and learn to love it!
