INDIVIDUAL INTERN SUMMER HOUSING OPTIONS AT GW

We are pleased that you are interested in Summer housing at The George Washington University.

Our University offers a convenient location for exploring and enjoying Washington D.C.  We are located in the heart of the Nation's Capital, and are a quick walk or Metro ride (blue and orange lines) from all major monuments, museums, and historical attractions that make Washington D.C. a unique place for your interns and participants to Work, Stay, and Play!

After reviewing the information below, please do not hesitate to contact our Summer & Conference Housing office at: Sumhouse@gwu.edu or by phone at: (202) 242-2200 during our office hours of 7:00am-1:00am  for further guidance.

ELIGIBILITY

Summer housing is available to individuals participating in a structured internship or volunteer opportunity in Washington, D.C. for the Summer months. GW does not offer Summer housing to tourists.  GW reserves the right to confirm your eligibility for Summer housing.  Individuals who are not academic-year GW students but are intending to register for Summer Courses at GW, should sign up for Summer housing as a GW student.  This will permit you to reserve space based on the Summer academic calendar.

Summer housing is only available to individuals who will be at least 18 years of age prior to their scheduled check-in date.  Individuals who are under the age of 18 at the time of initial application, must complete a paper application and have a parent/guardian sign the Summer Housing License Agreement on their behalf.  Paper applicants must submit documentation of an offered internship with their initial housing request.  IOnly the first page of the Individual Paper Application needs to be returned to GW Housing Programs, Summer & Conference Housing Program.  Individual Paper Applications are now available.  Please click here to download a copy of the Individual Intern Paper Application and Summer Housing License Agreement.

Individuals who are current Graduate or Professional students and/or 23 years old or older, have the option to request housing in GW's Graduate Housing Community.  Two residence halls, HOVA and The Aston, are year round Graduate housing communities.  Summer housing assignments are available to either of these locations for individuals that meet this eligibility requirement.  Because the Graduate academic-year calendar differs for the Undergraduate academic-year calendar, the dates in which housing is available in these two locations differ than all our other residence halls options.  To learn more about this housing option, please proceed to our Summer 2009 Housing for Graduate Students section of our Web site for more information.  Graduate Housing cannot be requested through our on-line Summer housing application.

DATES

For Summer residents who are not enrolled in Summer school courses at The George Washington University, Summer housing is available beginning May 24, 2009 and ending August 8, 2009.

There is a minimum 5-week stay required. Space is at a premium, and rooms are assigned on a first come-first served basis. Unfortunately, due to the University’s academic-year calendar, there is no opportunity to honor Summer housing requests for individual guests before or after these dates.

RATES

All rates identify specific room types, the overall occupancy of each unit, and are a Per Week Per Person rate. Room types specify general amenities and Room Occupancy indicates the maximum number of individuals that could be assigned to each unit.  Rates listed do not include the required 14.5% District of Columbia Housing Accommodations Tax. Additionally a $150 non-refundable administrative fee will be added to the total cost of housing to cover additional services and administrative costs.

Individual Interns signing up for eight or more weeks will benefit from a reduced Weekly Rate, which is less than our Summer 2008 housing rates.  Consider adding a week or more to your stay request to take advantage of this special rate incentive.

The George Washington University offers many different types of residence halls to Summer residents.  All buildings on campus are air-conditioned and most rooms have private bathrooms.  There are four different Building Groups available to Individual Interns.  The overall amenities of rooms and buildings increase through the Building Group options.  To learn more about each Building Group, click on the active link within the rate chart or refer to the "Buildings" section below.

APPLY

Individual Interns can apply for Summer housing accommodations by completing an on-line application.  First time visits each Summer season, must start by creating a Courtesy Net ID.  This is done from the first page of the on-line application.  Once created, this will permit external guests to access GW's on-line application throughout their Summer stay.

The Summer housing on-line application will walk guests through a series of pages that will collect address information, details about your Summer internship or volunteer activities.  You will be able to select your preferred arrival and departure weeks, rank your Room Type preferences, and review available room options.  Upon selecting a specific housing accommodation, you will be directed to read and review the Summer Housing License Agreement.  This is the legal document which outlines the rights and responsibilities of each individual guest and provides details about important policies related to your stay.  Please take the time to thoroughly review this document, which can also be printed for you future reference.

In order to complete your Summer housing reservation, a deposit is required at the time of submission.  There is a 10-minute clock that will count down and only hold your requested room assignment until payment is made.  GW's Summer & Conference Housing only accepts Visa and MasterCard credit cards as payment.  If a successful payment is received, a confirmation page with the details of your Summer housing accommodations will appear and also be e-mailed to the e-mail account provided as part of your reservation.  GW Summer & Conference Housing has the right to reassign individuals to alternate yet comparable housing accommodations if necessary.

Individual Interns may request others as potential rooms once each person has successfully signed up for Summer housing.  Within the confirmation e-mail, each guest will be assigned a unique Participant Number.  To make a roommate request, you will need to obtain this Participant Number and the e-mail address of that individual in order to add this request to your reservation.  Individuals Interns, will need to log back into the on-line application and proceed through the application to the Roommate Request page.  GW's Summer & Conference Housing program will make every attempt to honor all roommate requests, however, may not be able to do so in every circumstance.  Roommates may only be of the same gender.
