GW Academic-Year Undergraduate Students Summer Housing Options

Each Summer, several hundred academic-year GW Undergraduate students choose to remain in Washington DC and live in on-campus housing.  Whether you are taking classes, involved in a structured internship, or conducting academic research, GW Housing Programs is here to offer you accommodations throughout the Summer months.

ELIGIBILITY

Summer housing is available to any academic-year GW Students attending Summer School or involved in some educationally oriented activity (e.g. internship, employment, research) for the Summer months.  GW reserves the right to confirm your eligibility for Summer housing.

DATES

Summer housing is available beginning May 21, 2009 and ending August 18, 2009.  Those GW students who are Spring 2009 on-campus housing residents will transition from their Spring to Summer housing assignment on Thursday, May 21, 2009.  Further, those GW students who will be Fall 2009 on-campus housing residents will transition from their Summer to Fall housing assignment on Tuesday, August 18, 2009.  Students are expected to coordinate their transition between the hours of 8:30am-12:30pm on these days.  Please plan accordingly.  Individuals who are neither Spring 2009 or Fall 2009 on-campus housing residents will simply arrive or depart on these days.  Unfortunately, GW Housing Programs cannot offer any additional housing past August 18, 2009 to any individual who is not a Fall 2009 resident.

GWU Students have the option to choose among three Summer reservation options:

Summer I only which is from May 21, 2009 through June 27, 2009.

Summer II only which is from July 5, 2009 through August 18, 2009.

Entire Summer which is from May 21, 2009 through August 18, 2009.

Students who are Spring 2009 on-campus housing residents and who sign up for the Entire Summer or Summer I only do not need to move out between the official close of Spring housing on May 13, 2009.  Additionally, students who are Fall 2009 on-campus housing residents and who sign up for the Entire Summer or Summer II only do not need to move out between the official end of Summer and start of Fall housing on August 29, 2009.  This additional housing is provided to on-campus residents as a courtesy.

RATES

All rates are for the date ranges specified below.  These date ranges are firm and based on the Summer Sessions terms.  Students may arrive or depart within these dates, however, no pro-ration of Housing fees will be provided.  A $50 non-refundable Administrative Fee is also added to the total cost of housing to cover additional services.

Unlike the academic-year, all Summer housing charges and fees are paid directly to GW Housing Programs and cannot be applied to a GW student's University Account.  Students are required to make an initial deposit at the time of reservation.  Final payment in full is due before your arrival or transition day.

BUILDINGS

For the Summer 2009 season, GW is debuting the GW Summer Student Community in Ivory Tower.  All GW Students will be assigned to Quad accommodations in Ivory Towers for the Summer 2009 season.

Should your actual Spring 2009 or Fall 2009 (after those assignments are released) room be located in an Ivory Tower quad, and that unit is available, either the on-line Summer Housing application or a GW Housing Programs, Summer & Conference Housing Staff member will be able to assign you to that space.

GW Students who have been approved for a Squatter's Rights housing assignment for Fall 2009-Spring 2010 may request to remain in their same residence hall with the understanding that all remaining bed spaces within that unit will be assigned to non-GW students/Individual Interns staying in on-campus housing during the Summer season.  If you would like to request to remain in your same residence hall, please still complete the on-line application for Summer housing.  Afterward, e-mail GW Housing Programs, Summer & Conference Housing at sumhouse@gwu.edu to make this request.  If your current or Fall housing assignment is available, we will adjust your reservation and notify you of this assignment change.

APPLY

GW Undergraduate students apply for Summer housing accommodations by completing an on-line application, using your NetID and password.  The Summer housing on-line application will walk you through a series of pages that will collect address information, details about your Summer internship or volunteer activities.  You will be asked to select a specific Length of Stay request and then will be presented with an available room choice.  Upon selecting a specific housing accommodation, you will be directed to read and review the Summer Housing License Agreement.  This is the legal document which outlines the rights and responsibilities of each individual guest and provides details about important policies related to your stay.  Please take the time to thoroughly review this document, which can also be printed for you future reference.

In order to complete your Summer housing reservation, a deposit is required at the time of submission.  There is a 10-minute clock that will count down and only hold your requested room assignment until payment is made.  GW's Summer & Conference Housing only accepts Visa and MasterCard credit cards as payment.  If a successful payment is received, a confirmation page with the details of your Summer housing accommodations will appear and also be e-mailed to the e-mail account provided as part of your reservation.  GW Summer & Conference Housing has the right to reassign individuals to alternate yet comparable housing accommodations if necessary.

GW students may request other GW students as potential rooms once each person has successfully signed up for Summer housing.  Within the confirmation e-mail, each GW student will be assigned a unique Participant Number.  To make a roommate request, you will need to obtain this Participant Number and the e-mail address of that individual in order to add this request to your reservation.  GW students will need to log back into the on-line application and proceed through the application to the Roommate Request page.  GW's Summer & Conference Housing program will make every attempt to honor all roommate requests, however, may not be able to do so in every circumstance.  Roommates may only be of the same gender.
