GW Housing Programs
Social Entrepreneur's Challenge

The Social Entrepreneurs Challenge presents residents with the opportunity to identify a community need, develop an innovative approach to meeting that need, and propose the idea for funding in the campus-wide contest.  All returning on-campus students maintain eligibility for the annual contest, held for the first time in April 2007.

The winner of the Entrepreneurs Challenge must be possessed by a new idea—a new solution or approach to a social or community problem—that will change the pattern in a field, be it civic engagement, human rights, the environment, or any other.  The idea is evaluated historically and against existing projects or initiatives, looking for innovation and real change potential.  GW Housing Programs’ selection process is anchored by the following criteria against which all applications are evaluated:

Creativity/ Entrepreneurial Idea (25%)

Social Impact of the Idea (25%)

Educational Fiber (25%)

Quality of the Plan and Implementation (25%)

GW Housing Programs would like to CONGRATULATE the winner for the 2007-2008 Academic Year, and recipient of funding to implement the award proposal:

FeelGood

Coordinated by Heather Rubacky and Mallory Carteaux

In partnership with Jennifer Pike and Julie Kern

Mission

FeelGood is an organization that raises money for The Hunger Project and spread philosophies of gender and socioeconomic equality, sustainability and justice. It does so by selling gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches and giving information about other ways to help end world hunger. This organization exists at a few other universities and we plan to start the first chapter of FeelGood at GW.

Objectives

FeelGood GW aims to raise $5,000 during the 2007-2008 school year and to increase membership to 20 fully active members. Finally, FeelGood GW hopes to have a permanent location for the kiosk and to be open regular hours each week.
