What is a forfeit?
A forfeit is when a team does not have the required number of players at game time. A first forfeit will result in a $50 fine for the forfeiting team. A second forfeit will result in immediate elimination from the league in addition to a second $50 fine. These fees are designed as a deterrent for teams to continue showing up for games even if their season isn't going as well as planned. It also offsets some of the costs we incur as we still must pay staff during a forfeit.
Where do I pay my forfeit fee?
Payments may be made to the Campus Recreation office during regular business hours – payments by cash, check and credit card (Visa or Mastercard only). If the fine is not paid within the specified time frame (usually one week following the completion of the event or league) the captain’s student account will be charged.
What if I know my team can't show up next week?
If you know that your team will not be able to make the game, the Captain must call 202-994-1975 by 5pm the day of the game (or 5pm on Friday for a weekend game). We will charge you a loss but not a forfeit fee. Only the team captain may utilize this option.
Where can I find my team’s schedule?
League schedules are posted on our website. Please do not call our office to find out when your team plays as our staff has been instructed to direct you to our website.
Where do we play?
The location of games should be noted on your schedule. Most sports are held on 4th floor of the Lerner Health and Wellness center. Outdoor events will be held either at Mt. Vernon or at a location that will be posted on the IM sports website. Some leagues are also held at the Hippodrome.
How can I find out about game cancellations and rescheduling?
Game cancellations and postponements will be posted on the IM Sports website
What happens if I am ejected? Suspended?
Any player ejected from a game by a Supervisor or Official for any reason must leave the playing area immediately. If the player does not leave, the team will receive additional penalties, which may include penalties prescribed by the specific sport, and/or the game being forfeited by officials or supervisors. Any ejected player is prohibited from playing in or viewing a game until they have met personally met with the Assistant Director. It is the responsibility of the participant to contact the Assistant Director. If a player is ejected from a playoff game, the participant will be barred from competition for the remainder of the playoffs. The participant will need to be reinstated before participating in other intramural sport activities. Captains should be aware of the reinstatement procedures and assist their players in getting reinstated immediately. Suspensions CARRY OVER to the next sport, semester, and academic year if not resolved. Any team with three ejections in a season will be ineligible for playoffs.
How do I get reinstated?
To be reinstated you must meet personally with the Assistant Director. The Assistant Director will determine whatever action is necessary given the circumstances of your ejection, and will hand down suspensions and give you your reinstatement date.
