Housing
GW's housing experience is second to none, contributing to overall academic success, permitting greater opportunities for campus involvement, and offering safe and convenient services to residents. Incoming first-year students have 13 residential living choices located on our two vibrant campuses: Foggy Bottom and Mount Vernon.
For the 2009-2010 academic year, the residential Houses at GW allow first-year students the opportunity to increase out-of-classroom learning in one of nine Houses:
- Culture & Arts House at Mitchell and Strong Halls
- Humanities & Sports Studies House at Madison Hall
- Politics & Public Policy House at Thurston Hall
- Global Perspectives & Diplomacy House at Potomac House
- The Science Village at Mount Vernon
- Media and Public Affairs House at Somers Hall
- Education & Public Service House at Thurston Hall
- Honors and Engineering House at Lafayette Hall
- Business and Entrepeneurship House at Crawford Hall
- Sustainability and Environmental Education House at 2034 G Street
For a description on each house, click here.
Each House will consist of several Living and Learning Cohorts (LLC) designed around a common area of intellectual or social interest. LLCs allow first-year residents to actively purse an experiential program throughout the academic year, one that is designed and facilitated by you and your fellow residents with help from your House Proctors.
GW's First-Year Housing Application will be available online on April 21, 2009. To access the application visit this site and click on Freshman Housing Application. This application asks you: to rank your residence hall preferences, to answer questions about your lifestyle preferences (bedtime, study hours, cleanliness, etc.), and to indicate any roommate preferences. For detailed information about submitting the housing application please download these instructions.
As you continue to explore GW's housing options, the First-Year Housing Application can be changed and amended an unlimited number of times until it closes. Assignments are based on admission standing (Early Decision, Regular Decision), interests, room preferences, and availability.
If you have any questions regarding any aspect of the First-Year Housing Assignment process or about the residential Houses and LLCs, please visit our web site at http://living.gwu.edu, or give us a call.
