Financial Aid Requirements for Fall 2008 Transfer Candidates

Below is a list of requirements and due dates for a Fall 2008 transfer candidate to apply for financial aid.

**Note:  During processing, additional documentation may be required.

1. 2008-2009 CSS Profile

Deadline: May 1, 2008

  • This is completed on-line at <www.collegeboard.com>.  CSS School code is 5246. 
  • You must complete the registration with CSS before completing the actual application.  Registration is also completed on-line at www.collegeboard.com.
  • For assistance you can email CSS at <help@cssprofile.org> or call at 1-800-778-6888.

2. 2008-2009 FAFSA

Deadline: May 1, 2008

  • This is completed on-line at <www.fafsa.ed.gov>.  GW’s school code is 001444.
  • For assistance you can call 1-800-4FED AID (800-433-3242).
3. 2007 Income Tax Returns

Deadline: May 1, 2008
  • Please submit copies of the Parent and Student 2007 SIGNED Tax Returns and ALL W-2 Statements directly to the financial aid office.
  • Do not send estimated copies of the 2007 Taxes.  We need signed copies of the actual 2007 Tax Return and all schedules that were sent to the IRS. (The IRS E-file confirmation is not acceptable).  Please be aware that if you have an extension from the IRS for your taxes, we will be unable to finalize an award until we receive the final taxes.  We are unable to make exceptions to this requirement, regardless of the IRS granting an extension.
  • If the student and/or parent did not file a tax form, you must complete a form entitled “Certification That Tax Return Was/Is Not Required To Be Filed For The 2007 Tax Year”.
  • If you list on the PROFILE and FAFSA that you will have a sibling in college for the 2008-2009 academic year, you will need to have the sibling’s school confirm this.  Please complete the “2008-2009 Sibling Enrollment Verification for GW Incoming Students” and send to sibling’s institution for verification.
  • Please submit any of the following documents that apply to you:

    Ø      Social Security Recipients—Submit ALL 2007 1099-SS Forms for all family members receiving benefits.

    Ø      Student’s Proof of Citizenship Status (if not U.S.).

    Ø      GW Family Grant Application (if you will have a sibling enrolled at GW as a full-time undergraduate in 2008 -2009).

     

**Please always include the Student’s Name, Social Security Number, and Fall 2008 Transfer on all documents Submitted to the Financial Aid Office.
