Eligibility for Financial Assistance at GW is determined using the following basic formula:
Cost of Attendance Less Outside Resources Less EFC = Need
· The Cost of Attendance is an estimate of the expenses a student should expect to incur in a given year.

Outside Resources are resources awarded to the student by someone other
than the federal government or GW's Office of Student Financial
Assistance
· The Expected Family Contribution, or EFC, is determined by the information submitted on the CSS Profile and FAFSA
forms and is verified by income tax information. GW's Family
Contribution Worksheet, which is available in our office, offers a detailed look at how we determine a
family's EFC.
