2012-2013

Federal Direct Stafford Loan

Step 1:  Complete the 2012-2013 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  GW's code is 001444.

Step 2:  Complete the 2012-2013 GW Loan Questionnaire and return to:

Note:  A GW Loan Questionnaire must be submitted each time a Direct Stafford Loan is requested. See note above if form does not appear.

Step 3:  Federal Direct Stafford Loan Master Promissory Note (MPN) – If you have not previously borrowed a Federal Direct Stafford loan at GW, you must complete the MPN online here.  Click the green "Sign In" button and use your FAFSA PIN to begin the process.  If you experience any technical issues or have trouble completing the MPN online, call 800-4-FED-AID for assistance.  

Note:  If you request that a paper copy of the MPN be sent to you for completion, there are more steps involved before your Direct Loan can be approved and disbursed, which may cause delays in receiving your loan funds. 
 
Step 4:  All first-time borrowers at GW must complete an Entrance Interview regarding their rights and responsibilities as Federal Stafford Loan borrowers.  Entrance counseling can be completed online here.

Note:   During processing, additional documentation may be required.  We will contact you in writing should this need arise. Please do not submit tax information unless we expressly request it.

Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loan

Step 1:  Follow steps (1-3) for the Direct Stafford Loan since the Federal Direct Graduate PLUS program requires institutions to determine each student’s eligibility for the Direct Stafford Loan before processing a Federal Direct Graduate PLUS application.

Step 2:  Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Master Promissory Note (MPN) - If you have not previously borrowed a Federal Direct Graduate PLUS loan at GW or you have had a Federal Direct Graduate PLUS loan denied for credit reasons, you must complete the PLUS MPN online here.  Click the green "Sign In" button and use your FAFSA PIN to begin the process.  If you experience any technical issues or have trouble completing the PLUS MPN online, call 800-4-FED-AID for assistance.

Note:  If you request that a paper copy of the PLUS MPN be sent to you for completion, there are more steps involved before your Direct Loan can be approved and disbursed, which may cause delays in receiving your loan funds.  

Step 3:  Complete the 2012-2013 GW Loan Questionnaire.  If you are applying for both Federal Direct Stafford and Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loans, indicate loan requested amounts for both loans on the same Loan Questionnaire and mail to:

Private Alternative Loan

Step 1:  Complete the private alternative loan application with the lender of your choice.

Step 2:  Complete the 2012-2013 GW Loan Questionnaire.  Indicate the requested loan amount for your private alternative loan and the name of the loan you have applied for.  If you are simultaneously requesting new or additional federal loan amounts, indicate these on the same Loan Questionnaire and mail to:
