Notetaking Support
Notetaking support is often considered appropriate for students with physical disabilities or chronic health impairments that might compromise graphomotor competence, as well as students presenting auditory or written language processing deficits related to learning disabilities, attention deficit hyperactivity disoders, or phsychological disorders. Students are responsible for picking up a Notetaker Request Form from our office and for meeting with faculty during the first week of class to request assistance with acquiring a notetaker. DSS requests that faculty assist in locating a notetaker from the class in which the student is enrolled. Once the professor has obtained the name of at least one potential notetaker, return this form to DSS for processing. Notes are typically scanned by DSS staff and emailed to the student. A GW Bookstore gift certificate is given to the notetaker at the end of the term in appreciation for his or her assistance. Students registered with DSS are expected to participate fully in managing their notetaking services throughout the semester. This service is not a substitute for class attendance. Frequent non-disability related absences might result in a suspension of the service.
