Our initial focus has been on working with campuses where our corporate partners have proven hiring success to maximize their opportunity to reach talented students who happen to have disabilities – students they would likely not have access to otherwise – for summer internships and full time positions.

The GW Spring Career Fair takes place this Tuesday, February 26, 2008, from 1-5 pm in the Marvin Center Ballrooms!

** INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES: **
The Washington Center runs a Public Service Internship Program for College Students with Disabilities during summer, spring, and fall terms.  When students are accepted by The Washington Center, they are assigned, according to their interests, to one of twelve thematically organized programs or to our Postgraduate Professional Development Program, specially designed for recent graduates or graduate students. Each program has one or more professional program advisors who counsel, place, supervise and help evaluate students, as well as organize activities for them during the day or half-day when students are not at their internships.

Students with disabilities are eligible to receive a $2,500 scholarship to help cover the cost of housing fees.  This scholarship may be combined with state scholarship awards available through The Washington Center.

The US Department of Treasury Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) has begun its annual national college recruitment for entry-level Assistant National Bank Examiner (ANBE) positions. 

The recruitment program is focused on soon-to-be college graduates, recent graduates, and graduates with advanced degrees whose primary academic concentration was in finance, accounting, banking, business administration, commercial or banking law, marketing, economics, or any other closely related discipline.  Students with disabilities are encouraged to apply.

The US Department of Agriculture has several PAID summer internship openings and is interested in candidates with disabilities!

The USDA’s office of Marketing and Regulatory Programs (MRP) needs bright, energetic, and committed professionals to facilitate the domestic and international marketing of US agricultural products and to protect the health and care of animals and plants in the United States.  The MRP is looking for 2 Agricultural Marketing Assistants, an Agricultural Economist Assistant, and a Computer Assistant for PAID summer internship positions.

National Job Shadowing Day
Friday, February 1, 2008

As a student shadow, students will be paired with a member of OSERS staff and will have the opportunity to see how our work in OSERS impacts the lives of people with disabilities.  There will be an orientation for students at the beginning of the day outlining the agenda, giving instructions and discussing what to expect (as well as answering questions from students, of course).

We will target students that are interested in Special Education, Communications, Vocational Rehabilitation, Transition, Assistive Technology, Disability Research, and/or Grants as they will benefit the most from this experience.  The agenda for this day will potentially include activities such as OSERS Staff Panel lunch program and a tour of USDA Target Center

Student Employment with NASA Goddard

We have an urgent need for a student who is interested human resources.  This student should be at least a sophomore who is able to work at least part time.  Their GPA should be a 3.0 or better and be seeking at least a bachelor’s degree.  This position is more of an administrative/clerical role, but would give a student hands-on exposure to human resources and personnel practices.  

We also have a few co-op positions available in the following areas.

Ideally they would have taken specific classes in structural mechanics, strength of materials, finite element methods, and/or structural dynamics. Department of State Job Shadow Day

Members of the Disability Action Group (DAG) at the U.S. Department of State want you to know about an exciting event we are holding on Wednesday, October 17, 2007 involving ten local college students with disabilities.

The time of this event is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2:15 p.m., and participants will shadow ten DAG members who are State Department employees, have a working lunch, and be presented with an afternoon information session about both internship and career opportunities.
