University policies and guidelines applicable to GW student life in addition to the Guide to Student Rights and Responsibilities.


Examples of Services Provided

Oversight of housing and residential facilities for the Foggy Bottom and Mount Vernon campuses and the Columbia Plaza Housing Program.

Management, policy development and participation with the GW Housing Program staff in the implementation of residence hall staff selection and training, community standards, program development and consultation and intervention in student problems.

Oversight of University Policies - Code of Student Conduct, Alcohol Policy, Sexual Harassment, Guide to Student Rights and Responsibilities, Residential Community Conduct Guidelines and Administrative Policies, etc.

Crisis Management - coordinates primary University response in crisis situations involving students (i.e., life-threatening injuries, death, suicide, criminal activity, matters which may involve media coverage, etc.); deans are on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Administrative and personal assistance and referral regarding student medical or mental health problems.  Assistance includes: withdrawals, notification of appropriate administrative staff and consultations with medical personnel.

Non-Academic Discipline - Oversight of Student Judicial Services in consultation with General Counsel's office regarding suspensions, expulsions or complex cases.

Compliance/Affirmative Action as it applies to students: Handle civil rights and discrimination complaints, respond to federal and state agencies, ADA, sexual harassment, Drug Free Schools and Community Act, and other laws and regulations as they effect students.

Resolution of complex student/University disputes and problems including those referred by the President.

Consultations with faculty and academic deans on student issues.

Support, assistance and referral to parents of students who experience academic or administrative problems at the University.

Administration and consultation on Presidential initiatives.

Administration of Student Health Insurance Plan including negotiation of contract terms and premiums.

Oversight of substance abuse prevention strategies and interventions with student substance abusers.

Training for students, faculty and administrative staff on range of policies and student issues.

 Represents the University in response to Foggy Bottom community complaints about students off-campus behavior and neighborhood relations.

Coordination of the annual GW Award and Manatt-Trachtenberg Prize selection processes.
