Top Ten Tips for Finding Study Aides
1. Build relationships with your TAs and professors. They are great resources for explaining material. Ask your professor about workbooks, supplementary readings, and other books which may have extra problem sets.
2. Acquaint yourself with Gelman library resources and Internet resources which may be helpful.
3. Get a copy of an old test to familiarize yourself with the professor's format.� The Student Association has a test file, as do fraternities and sororities.
4. Attend review sessions prior to a test.
5. Form study groups with friends. Sometimes talking about the material with others will help you to clarify key concepts.
6. Review your course syllabus. It should highlight class objectives and when assignments are due.
7. Tips for Visual Learners: a) Make your notes visual by using diagrams, pictures, arrows, or concept maps. b) Look at teachers when they are speaking.
8. Tips for Audio Learners: a) Read, restate and re-think aloud. b) Concentrate in lectures as you should be able to pick up more material.
9. Tips for Kinesthetic (Physical) Learners: a) Connect study material or concepts with gestures or actions. Act out the material. b) Walk around while memorizing material.
