Learn to Identify and Use Resources
|
Are you one of those people who has to do everything on your own? While
it is up to you to learn, the whole University - faculty, staff, peers
and resources - is there to help you. That's what they get paid for!!!
Why not let somebody help or give you the tools to help yourself?
Build a relationship with your professor. Make a note of office hours,
e-mail address and phone number. Introduce yourself before or after one
of your classes. Ask the professor to help you to focus or prioritize
your efforts.
Review your syllabus carefully. Note test dates, papers due, texts,
workbooks, or supplementary readings. Chart the flow of content and due
dates from week to week in your planner.
Talk with TAs or upper division students in your area. Ask for "insider
information" re: the material, tests, or the professors values.
Get a tutor, if needed. The Peer Tutoring Center at UCC, The Writing
Center, The Math Lab, SEAS tutors, the Athletic Department Academic
Advisors, etc. Check the Useful Links page.
Form a study group with friends/peers; attend or even sponsor a review session prior to tests.
Check the S.A. test file or ask your professor for typical questions on the exam.
Consider the syllabus, chapter headings/outlines, and selected readings
as highlights of important information. Find something, anything, that
YOU want to know more about in the course. Take control of the learning
process. Ask yourself, "Where does this course fit in the overall
importance of my education?"
