Mission Statement

The University Counseling Center Peer Educator Program was instituted in 2004 to support the UCC in contributing to the educational mission of the University.  By fostering an understanding and supportive environment, Peer Educators provide an outlet for the campus community to talk about the impact of mental health issues on students' academic and personal success at GW.  It is the hope of the Peer Educators to raise awareness about mental health issues and to reduce the stigma of dealing with these issues and seeking help.  In order to achieve these goals, the Peer Educators provide outreach workshops and presentations and participate in awareness campaigns geared toward the recognition and prevention of mental health issues.  By doing so, the Peer Educators help build the foundation for a healthier lifestyle and further resiliency among the members of the George Washington University community.
