Comments from Peer Educators
“While there is work to be done and deadlines to be met, the effort one puts in is rewarding and educating. I've learned more about mental health than I would have ever dreamed. I also learned a lot about myself in the process. I know my leadership skills and ability to tackle challenges has grown immensely. The first thing I said when discussing the recruitment of new Peer Educators was, "Do we get to stay?" I would recommend the program to anyone who seeks a challenge, enjoys exploring the mental health arena, and isn't afraid to get their hands dirty and truly help those in need”. -----Peer Educator Class of 2006-2007
“As a Peer Educator, I have had been given the opportunity to learn from my peers in the process of helping my community… As I entered the program, I come from a psychology and science background that gave me a base of factual knowledge that I wanted to build on further… our instructors first asked each of us was what we wanted to get out of the program. For me, after some retrospection, that turned out to be less didactic lessons and more personal experiences that I thought would let me grow both as a potential counselor and personally. And, the instructors set up the class in a way that assisted our (the student’s) goals”. -----Peer Educator Class of 2006-2007
"The UCC Peer Educator program has given me an opportunity to better understand the importance of mental health education and awareness amongst college students. Our outreaches and workshops strengthened my presentation skills, as well as communication and public speaking skills. I would definitely recommend this course to anyone in any field of study. It has been a really great experience!” -----Peer Educator Class of 2006-2007
"I was interested in the peer educator program because I want to be a counselor in the future. The program isn't only valuable for people like me though. Anyone who is interested in mental health or in helping the well-being of fellow students would benefit from being a part of it. On top of increasing knowledge about the mental health topics that each individual is interested in, peer eds get to reach out to the greater campus community and do something that could really positively affect their lives". ----- Peer Educator Class of 2007-2008
