Consultation and Training Programs

  • University Counseling Center staff are available to consult with faculty, administrative offices, or individuals concerning issues affecting student welfare and development, student crises, or any of our services. We would be happy to help you assess a difficult situation, learn about resources, make an intervention, or learn the best way to make a referral, if appropriate.

  • Center staff are also available to make presentations to your department or class on topics such as adjustment to college, assertive communication, cultural and racial diversity, career/major decision making, stress management, facilitation skills, and academic effectiveness.

Please call 994-5300 to speak with John Dages, Senior Associate Director, for further information.

For more information on dealing with student issues, please read our virtual pamphlet entitled Students in Distress: A Guide for Faculty and Staff.

  • To help staff, and faculty members respond to distressed students the University Counseling Center offers a QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) training.  QPR will train you to:
    •  identify the warning signs of depressed or distressed students
    •  learn how to engage these students
    •  refer them to the appropriate campus resrouces

We offer two FREE training options:

1) In-person training:  a 2 hour session, where a certified QPR instructor from CrisisLink trains participants face-to-face.

2) Online training:  a 1-1.5 hour session, where the participant obtains an access code by emailing uccprog@gwu.edu with his or her name and status at GW (i.e., faculty, or staff).

If interested, please direct questions to 202-994-5300.
